Parts of the Aravalli range in Gurugram district are protected forest land, and the National Green Tribunal has ordered illegal farmhouses on it to be removed. In January 2021, about 100 illegal farmhouses built on roughly 50 acres of Aravalli forest land in Gurugram district, including areas of Sohna and Manesar, were reported as targeted for demolition, according to TaxGuru's summary of the forest department action. A forest department survey had earlier found at least 500 such farmhouses on Aravalli land in Gurugram, as The Weekend Leader reported.
